Baggage Fee Update

Effective February 15, WestJet increased the first and second checked bag fee amounts by $5. While incremental baggage fee increases are standard across the industry, this is their first system-wide baggage fee increase since 2018.

The new fee amounts apply to:

  • all fares where a first and/or second bag fee is currently charged;
  • all travel regions;
  • all channels where baggage fees are paid (pre-paid, self-serve check-in and airport check-in); and
  • tickets issued on or after February, 15, 2024 for travel on or after February 15, 2024.
  • Excess baggage fees and overweight/oversized fees remain unchanged at this time.

If you booked before February 15, the original fee amount will be honoured.

To save time and money, we encourage you to pre-pay for up to two bags before check-in.  Guests are encouraged to prepay for their first and second checked bags as fees will increase by $10 through self-serve check-in, and a further $10 if paid at the airport with an agent.   Or you can choose to book a fare that includes checked baggage, such as EconoFlex, Premium or Business.

If you have booked your ticket using the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard, the cardholder and up to eight guests on the same reservation are eligible for the first checked bag free.

WestJet Rewards members with Silver and Gold status will continue to receive up to two free checked bags. Platinum Rewards members may check up to three bags at no cost.
